Planning a summer road trip from Los Angeles in your Polestar is easier than ever, thanks to Google-built routing and expanded access to the Tesla Supercharger network via a Polestar-supplied NACS adapter. Whether you are heading to Joshua Tree, the Central Coast, or further afield, your Polestar is engineered to support confident range planning across California.

At Polestar Los Angeles, our factory-trained Polestar technicians regularly help drivers prepare for long-distance summer travel. Leaving the familiar charging infrastructure of your LA neighborhood need not feel daunting. The combination of in-car routing, battery preconditioning, and a growing public charging network supports a more relaxed travel experience.

Google Built-In: Routing That Plans for You

Your Polestar uses Google built-in technology, with Google Maps integrated directly into the vehicle's infotainment system. This integration goes well beyond basic navigation.

Intelligent route planning: When you enter a destination, whether it is a weekend cabin in Big Bear or a tasting tour in Santa Barbara, Google Maps calculates an efficient route based on traffic, topography, and your current battery state of charge. The system can also factor in real-time charging station availability.

Automatic charging stop suggestions: If your destination is beyond a single charge, the system can suggest charging stops along the way and estimate how long you need to charge at each stop to reach your next destination.

Battery preconditioning: When the navigation system knows you are heading to a DC fast charger, it can automatically precondition the battery to an optimal temperature for fast charging. This allows the vehicle to accept a charge more efficiently, helping reduce time spent at the charger.

NACS Adapter and Tesla Supercharger Access

Polestar has signed an agreement with Tesla to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for North American Polestar vehicles, and future Polestar vehicles are planned to come with NACS charging ports as standard.

For current Polestar 2, Polestar 3, and Polestar 4 vehicles equipped with CCS (Combined Charging System) ports from the factory, an NACS adapter is available through your local Polestar Service Point. With the adapter, your Polestar can charge at Tesla Supercharger locations across the United States and Canada, significantly expanding your charging options on long-distance trips.

The in-car Google Maps experience has also been updated to show available NACS chargers, making it easier to find a Supercharger location along your route. This is particularly useful when driving through the Mojave Desert or along the remote stretches of Highway 1, where charging stops require more careful planning.

Range Assistant and Eco Climate

In your Polestar, the Range Assistant app displays current energy consumption, estimated range based on driving patterns, and alerts to high energy demand. This helps you adjust your driving style or climate settings to extend range on longer trips.

The Eco Climate function within the Range Assistant reduces climate system demand on the battery, helping you preserve range when efficiency is your priority over maximum cabin chill on a hot summer day.

Plug & Charge for a Seamless Experience

Plug & Charge technology, available on Polestar 2 and Polestar 3, supports a seamless charging experience at participating public charging stations. Once enabled through the Polestar Charge app and the in-vehicle settings, you can simply park, plug in, and let your vehicle initiate and authenticate the charging session, without needing multiple charging cards or apps.

Prepare Your Vehicle for Summer Travel

Software is one part of a successful road trip. Mechanical readiness matters too. The intense summer heat in the California interior can place added demand on your tires and thermal management systems.

Before a long trip, schedule a pre-trip inspection with our service center. Our factory-trained Polestar technicians can check tire pressure (which directly affects rolling resistance and range), inspect cabin air filters, and verify your thermal management coolant levels. A vehicle that is properly prepared mechanically pairs well with the intelligent routing features built into your Polestar to support an efficient, comfortable road trip.
